Having a website and not promoting it, is like producing a brochure and then leaving it in the cupboard to gather dust. You need to publicize your site.
There are a number of ways to do this, here are just a few.
Natural Search engine positioning.
Google the world’s biggest search engine will try at all costs to bring the most relevant websites to the consumer in response to a search term. In other words if you search for a “Blue-ray Player, then Google wants to give you a website about Blue-ray players, it goes out of its way to make sure that you do not get other “Blue” websites or Websites about Sting Rays for example. It does this by use of a clever indexing system and the use of Googlebots. I’m not going to go into too many details about this now but here is a link if you wish to read up on the subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GooglebotWhat we will be doing for you, is creating a website that is Googlebot friendly, in other words the website will contain relevant key words that will help the Googlebot find and index your site in the correct areas. Your natural search listing will take time to develop, but the goal is to have your site positioned as high as possible in the major search engines.
Pay Per Click Advertising.
This system allows you to get ahead of your competitors in the search engines by the use of paid for advertising. It’s very effective but needs careful managing. Let’s say that you were looking for a guest house in Blackpool, the search term used by most Google customers would more than likely be “Blackpool accommodation” or “Guest house in Blackpool” or Blackpool Bnb” these are called Keywords. You can rent these keywords from the search engines at a cost of say 20p. Then every time someone uses those keywords your website will show in the sponsored links on page 1or 2 of the Search engines. The higher the Bid the better your position. But beware, every time someone clicks on your site that will cost you your bid price. Don’t be scared of it, but you must know what you’re doing.
Social Networking sites.
These are a really effective way of telling all your friends what your new business venture is all about, and it’s free.
